Alumni Cosette Rentz has noticed paranormal activity in her house since she was just little; what is it? Rentz said, “I started noticing paranormal activity when I was young. Something has always felt off, and I assumed that’s what came with an old house. Definitely not. Something is here. A lot of things.” These ghosts in her house have been here for a while and plan to stay for quite some time. Rentz said, “My house has been haunted since the mid-1900s, yet my house is nearly 300 years old. People have come and gone for the past 100 years, always being driven out by these unseen forces.”
Even with these ghosts in her house, Rentz invites them to stay, rather than leaving the house like some of the previous owners. Even if she hasn’t had enjoyable encounters with these ghosts. “Anyone who’s lived in my house has known of the paranormal activity, but I believe I’m one of the few people who willingly invite them. My home even has doors and stairwells that go nowhere. This home was made for the dead.” Rentz said, “ My house has a lot of history. Plus, I’m someone who makes an effort to communicate with them.”
After living with these ghosts, Rentz adapted positively. “I encourage activity in my home, as I believe, at some point, this home was built to be a catalyst for the dead.” Rentz said, “This activity has been constant. I fear what would happen if it stopped. Maybe the presence of a malevolent force? Who knows, but I find comfort in my third routine activity.”
Rentz shares one of her more dangerous experiences with the ghosts and said, “I have been put in dangerous situations a couple of times. I personally have had experiences with demonic forces, which was horrifying. Since then, all of it has been solved. Still, it was horrifying.” Some of her other experiences haven’t been like this, for example, Rentz said, “My mom collects old dolls. The ghosts have a tendency to mess with the dolls. Also, they always love to knock things off shelves or just be annoying. The strangest thing is they’ve attempted to lure me into my basement, which I refuse to be alone in.”
Even with these forces in the house, they are not unknown or strangers. Rentz said, “The most common ghost is one named Abraham. Hundreds of ghosts haunt my home. I live near 3 graveyards, and I’ve always believed that my house is a catalyst for paranormal activity. I have interacted with a woman ghost, but never found out who she was. I do communicate with the ghosts quite frankly. I work at a funeral home, so I believe maybe it’s some special type of connection. I quite frequently hold seances, which is probably another reason spirits reside in my home (about 60-70).” Rentz’s situation may deter people, but she has a way of embracing it. These ghosts will keep her on her toes and make sure she never has a boring day.
Both photos have photo creds to Cosette Rentz. The photo on the left shows when Eustace Eggie lived there; he was the biggest blacksmith in the area at that time. The photo on the right is an upstairs hallway that houses a lot of paranormal activity. The door to the left opens to a wall.
