This year, many changes are being made to the school. Since the building was originally finished in the 60’s, a lot of things have been improved or made different. Even just 30 years ago it almost looked like a different place, both the high school and middle school looked much older and were a lot smaller. The additions made in 2003-2004 were largely beneficial to many of the programs in both of the schools.
Gerald Deloach said “These facilities that we have are really almost second to none in South Jersey. The fact that we have a music suite with multiple rooms right in the same area. And having a percussion dedicated area is just incredible,” When Deloach started here 28 years ago, many main parts of the school were just giant parking lots. Before this new section of the school was built the music and theater programs had to share the old auditorium, which was the bandroom and L.G.I. together. Not having the music areas was a very big inconvenience, concerts had to be held at different locations due to the music programs outgrowing their space, and the 8th grade band used to have to be bussed over everyday for practice.
Along with the new band room being built the new gym, and theater/music areas were added too. A couple years later the wrestling room and the tunnel to the junior parking lot were put in. More recently the training room was expanded at the end of last school year. Any quotes for this part? I’d like to see more information added to highlight these additions.
Most of the things being done now or very recently are under the surface things that most people wouldn’t know. For example, the HVAC systems are being fixed, with these updates there will be consistently working heat and air throughout the school. While fixing temperature control around the school air conditioning was added to both gyms. Mr Micheal Holm said, “Fixing the HVAC systems will make the temperatures consistent around the school so you wont go from one room being freezing cold to the next being topical heat.”
New Clocks:
More obvious differences would be that over summer, the clocks were being switched to digital. This update was a technological advancement, “The reason for digital is two parts, one because that’s just the way clocks are moving to, and two because it’s our announcement system and they also have built in strobe lights. They have different things of that nature that the other clocks couldn’t do,” Holm said. Now all of these beneficial things are in one place, but there are still systems in place in case something were to happen. The inefficiency of the clocks at the start was because the software would crash and reset itself every night after being updated during the day.
New Doors:
Doors were being replaced too, the new doors will be more secure and have safety glass windows to help ensure the safety of students and staff, said Holm.
Bathroom Passes:
Holm also talked about new systems being put in place to ensure there is efficiency and that students are always accounted for. An example is the new bathroom passes, they would help to prevent fights and help locate students in case of an emergency. The new passes will “be like a que,” Holm said, the program they are using will only let a certain number of students out of class at one time assuring that there won’t be a line for the bathroom.
Female students may have also noted the absence of the cafeteria bathroom mirror, that is also in hopes of making things more efficient. Holm said that there were too many people staying in the bathroom to socialize and that removing the mirror would also remove distraction. “Everything being done is for efficiency and safety,” Holm said.
Updates for the theater have already been confirmed to start within the coming year. New ideas for the school are mostly cosmetic and for school spirit, Michael Wolk says, “I want there to be banners so where like if you’re walking around the back of the school between the football field and the theater there’s a bunch of stuff around there that Clearview… if someone were to drop you on to the track there should be banners everywhere that says Clearview.”
There are many other ideas going around for things. Some are internal to make sure that everything within the school is safe, some are more for show like the banners, and there are even ideas for possibly adding more in the future.
